Signature Corrective Facial aftercare: the first 48 hours
By Gloss Skincare | August 20, 2026
One of our first-time visitors told us it was their first facial in 40 years and that it felt amazing. To keep that fresh, glowy feeling you leave with in San Jose, the #1 rule for the first 48 hours is simple: keep skin calm. That means no heavy sweating, no direct sun, no hot showers or saunas, and no active exfoliants. Stick to gentle cleansing, hydration, and broad-spectrum SPF, and give your skin a clean runway to recover.
Quick reminder: Your Signature Corrective Facial (75 minutes, $325) is consultation-based. We combine advanced modalities and corrective peel options based on what your skin is doing that day, then send you home with a clear roadmap. Aftercare is what protects that work.
First 24 to 48 hours: the do’s and don’ts that save your results
If you remember one thing, make it this: heat + sweat + sun are the fastest ways to stir up redness and sensitivity after a corrective facial. We want the opposite. Calm, cool, protected.
Do this right away
- Cleanse gently tonight and tomorrow. No scrubs, no brushes, no cleansing devices.
- Use a simple hydrator (think hydrating serum or moisturizer) and let it soak in. Keep it boring for 48 hours.
- Wear broad-spectrum SPF. If you’re outside, reapply about every two hours.
- Sleep on a clean pillowcase if you can. Little things help.
Avoid these for 24 to 48 hours
- Workouts that make you sweat. Skip the outdoor run and the hot yoga.
- Direct sun and long drives with sun on your face. San Jose sun is no joke, especially in summer.
- Hot showers, hot baths, steam rooms, saunas.
- Makeup for at least 12 hours. If you’re still red or sensitive, wait longer.
- Retinol, AHAs, BHAs, strong vitamin C, benzoyl peroxide, and anything that tingles.
And if you commute through the North San Jose and Alviso corridor near Old Bayshore Highway, toss a travel SPF in your bag. A quick reapply between meetings can be the difference between “glowing and hydrated” and “why am I suddenly irritated?”
Days 3 to 7: keep the glow, don’t trigger congestion
A lot of people notice that “right after” look fast. We hear things like skin feeling hydrated, soothed, and less congested immediately after a Signature Facial, especially for sensitive, acne-prone skin. The first week is where you protect that progress.
If you had extractions or you’re tempted to pick
Don’t pick. Even “just this one.” If you’re seeing a little flaking or feel tender spots, that’s your sign to go gentle and hydrate. A cool compress for a few minutes can help if you feel warm or flushed.
When you can bring actives back
We generally recommend waiting 24 to 72 hours before reintroducing retinol or acids, and for many corrective cases it’s smarter to wait 3 to 7 days unless we specifically told you otherwise. If you restart and your skin stings, gets tight, or looks angry, stop and go back to your gentle basics.
San Jose reality check: If you’re outside at lunch, at a weekend park, or running errands in full sun, treat sunscreen like part of your outfit. Reapply. No negotiating with UV.
Post-facial care products: simple, calm, and barrier-friendly
Right after a corrective facial, your routine should feel almost too simple. That’s the point. When people tell us they leave feeling “glowing” and “less reactive, ” it usually lines up with doing fewer things, consistently, for a few days.
Our go-to aftercare lineup (by type)
- Gentle cleanser: no acids, no scrubbing, no “deep clean” feeling.
- Hydrating layer: a serum or essence that calms dryness and supports a healthy skin barrier.
- Moisturizer: especially if you’re prone to dryness or flaking.
- Broad-spectrum SPF: every morning. Reapply if you’re outdoors, even if it’s “just a quick walk.”
If we recommended specific home-care for your breakouts, dullness, melasma, or hyperpigmentation, follow that sequence. People often tell us the biggest difference is finally having a routine that makes sense, not a crowded shelf.
Redness timeline + when to message us (we’re actually here)
A little pinkness, mild tightness, or sensitivity can happen after a corrective facial, especially if we did extractions or a peel element. For many people it settles within a day. For reactive skin, it can hang around a bit longer. If your skin feels calm and looks progressively better day by day, you’re on track.
“She not only takes her time explaining the best skin care regimen for you but is always helpful and available when I have a question.”

Reach out sooner (same day) if you notice:
- Increasing pain, swelling, or heat that’s getting worse, not better
- Oozing, yellow crusting, or anything that looks like infection
- Fever or feeling unwell
We’re based in San Jose and we see skin concerns across San Jose, Santa Clara, Milpitas, Sunnyvale, Cupertino, and Campbell. If you’re unsure about a product restart or you’re reacting to something, let us know and we’ll help you sort it out. If your goal is corrective work, we’ll also talk through follow-ups so you keep moving forward, not starting over each time.
Want your next appointment to be easier?
If you’re commuting off US-101 into North San Jose or the Alviso corridor, we’ll keep your plan straightforward so your skin stays steady between shifts and events. Bring your current products next time, or send us a quick list. We’ll tell you what to keep, what to pause, and what’s getting in your way.

A simple rebooking rule for corrective skin
Corrective work tends to respond best to consistency. If breakouts, dullness, or stubborn pigment are your main issues, we’ll map out next steps during your Signature Corrective Facial and adjust as your skin changes. A lot of our regulars come back because they like leaving with clear directions and skin that feels cleaner, calmer, and more hydrated. That’s the goal every time.
