Teen clarity facial aftercare: first 72 hours

North San Jose / Alviso corridor near Old Bayshore Highway
We hear it all the time: after a couple months of following the acne recommendations, skin can look its best, but those first few days matter. Your #1 rule after our Teen Clarity Facial - 45 Mins is simple: keep your skin calm. For the first 72 hours, cleanse gently, skip makeup when you can, avoid heavy sweating for 24 hours, and hold off on scrubs, peels, retinoids, and strong acne actives for at least 48 to 72 hours. In San Jose heat, SPF is non-negotiable.
The first 24 to 48 hours: keep it gentle so congestion stays calm
This facial is designed for hormonal breakouts and congested pores, but we’re still working with teen skin that can react fast if you push it. So for day 1 and day 2, think: cool, clean, and light.
Do this today
- Cleanse with a gentle cleanser only. No brushes, no scrubs, no “extra clean” feeling.
- Use a light, non-comedogenic moisturizer. Dry, tight skin often leads to more irritation and more picking.
- Apply broad-spectrum SPF every morning, even if you’re mostly indoors. Windows and car rides still count.
- If you’re a little red from extractions, keep hands off and use cool compresses for 5 to 10 minutes.
Skip for 24 hours: hot showers, steam, sauna, and heavy exercise that makes you sweat a lot. Sweat plus heat can sting freshly exfoliated skin and make post-facial redness hang around longer.
If you’re commuting through the North San Jose and Alviso corridor near Old Bayshore Highway and you need to get back to school, practices, or weekend plans, this is the easiest win: keep your routine boring for two days. Your skin usually thanks you for it.
Days 3 to 7: the “don’t overdo it” week that keeps breakouts down
A lot of acne routines fail because people stack too many actives too quickly. We’re big on results without overdoing it. Clients tell us the home recommendations work well as long as they stay consistent, and this week is where consistency beats intensity.
Actives to pause (usually 48 to 72 hours)
For at least 48 to 72 hours, hold exfoliating acids, scrubs, peels, and retinoids. That includes many “acne toners” that tingle. If you use benzoyl peroxide or a topical retinoid, we generally recommend waiting until your skin feels fully calm again before restarting. If you’re under medical direction for acne meds, follow that plan first, and let us know what you’re using so we can help you fit it in safely.
Extraction marks: what’s normal and what not to do
Mild redness for 24 to 72 hours can be normal after extractions. What makes it worse is picking, rubbing with a towel, or trying to “smooth it out” with a scrub. If you get a tender spot, treat it gently, keep it clean, and protect it with moisturizer and SPF.
San Jose summer tip: warm, dry days can trick you into thinking you don’t need moisturizer. Dry skin can still clog and flare. Keep hydration light but consistent, and reapply SPF if you’re outside.
A simple teen routine after an acne facial (morning and night)
You don’t need a 10-step routine to keep results going. After this 45-minute facial, we like to keep your at-home plan realistic for busy families across San Jose, Santa Clara, Milpitas, Sunnyvale, Cupertino, and Campbell.
Morning
- Gentle cleanse (or rinse if you’re dry and not oily).
- Light moisturizer that won’t clog.
- Broad-spectrum SPF as your last step.
Night
- Gentle cleanse to remove SPF, sweat, and makeup.
- Moisturizer again. Yes, even acne-prone skin.
- If you’re restarting acne actives after the 48 to 72 hour window, go slow and don’t stack multiple strong products on the same night.
And keep it consistent. We’ve had acne clients tell us their skin improves the most when they stick with the plan instead of switching products every week.
Red flags vs normal: when to text or call Gloss Skincare
A little pinkness, mild tightness, or a small “purge-like” bump can happen, especially if we worked through congestion. What we don’t want is worsening irritation that keeps spreading.
Reach out if you notice any of these
- Redness that gets worse after day 3 instead of better.
- Spreading irritation, swelling that keeps increasing, or significant pain.
- Any signs of infection like warmth, pus, or fever. Don’t wait on this.

How this ties back to your Teen Clarity Facial - 45 Mins ($195)
In 45 minutes, we focus on clearing congestion without irritating sensitive young skin, using gentle exfoliation and calming techniques to support long-term clarity. Aftercare is what protects that work, especially if you’re balancing school, sports, and a changing hormone cycle.
If you’re planning your next visit, we can also talk through a realistic cadence that keeps acne under control without turning your bathroom counter into a chemistry lab.
